Your name?
Don. All the initials of my REEL NAEM start with a letter you can write with a ruler.
If possible, your age?
17.
When did you start drawing?
When I learned to hold a pencil, that's what I was told.
Which hand do you use for drawing?
Left.
Which is easier to draw - male or female?
Men come more naturally, for women I have to think more, so, uh, male? About the same?
Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Semi-long is easiest, but I love drawing really short.
Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
Right. When I was about 12 it was left, though (right felt impossible).
Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
For realism - side view, for other styles - front.
What do you have problems in drawing?
STARTING to draw dammit! But when I get started, feet and animals.
What do you like to draw?
Handsome guys and girls, couples, buildings, and I love paparazzi-drawing, as in drawing random people I see in public places.
Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
I do quite a bit of digital these days (mostly oekaki though) but I'm a traditonal artist at heart!!
Where do you start drawing from?
The first sketchlines I make are a ball for head, a cross to determine the direction of the face and a couple of shabby lines for torso/hands/pose in general. But the real drawing starts from the eyes. The upper lid.
What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
When I can't concentrate, I stop drawing every ten seconds to scratch my neck/play with the pencil/etc. etc. etc. useless and distracting. Also, when drawing figures, the final lineart is usually a lot smaller/"concentrated" than my sketch. I mean, the sketch has sometimes been double the size of the final thing. Happens especially with heads.
Any tips for coloring/shading?
U-ummm.
ENJOY IT. Surprisingly enough I've heard many people say they don't like colouring that much, but it's supposed to be enjoyable. Play with the colours, don't be afraid of them! Everybody loves couplings, right? Come up with some crazy crack pairings for colours! And a threesome? All the better! Play wth them and you'll find something that looks good to you. That's what's important.
(That... wasn't exactly helpful but it's what I think)
How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
If we're talking about a bigger picture and suppose I actively keep on working, six hours? That's good, actually, it usually takes longer. Some pieces swallow a weekend.
I dunno. ]:
What music do you listen to while you draw?
Preferably something that fits the mood or theme.
How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
I only start working if I have an idea ready, and I usually have. All just never materialize.
Your favorite drawing utensils?
Good ol' pencil (well, mechanical) and watercolours.
Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
I like almost all colours, but if I go without thinking while colouring, warm colours usually appear. I love them. Combined with cold ones they're cool too. But for some reason purple is my little headache and it's the one I have the most trouble using.
Some "specific" colours; orange-tinted bright red, everything brown, cobalt blue (when it's not dominant e.g. background in the picture), cadmium yellow.
Your favorite style(s)?
In general I like seeing that people enjoy using their style, and the fun they had shows up in their pictures and their style. At the moment I love Juanjo Guarnido (artist of Blacksad), funky Gurren Lagann art, art noveau (Alphonse Mucha)... As well as flat coloring, kids' art (it's so naïve and honest!) and combining abstract shapes with representative art using colouring/light.
What kind of artist are you aiming for?
One who can find inspiration to keep working and enjoy drawing despite being a little jealous of others. Of course I'd love to be ridden of jealousy completely but as a human being that doesn't sound very probable <: D I also want to hone my style so people can recognize my work and without knowing who made the pic tell that it's by me. Yup.
Whew, some big words there, no? This was fun to do.
